Genesis Collection
The Genesis Collection is a series of 30 NFTs, which take John Walter's artistic practice of world-building, inventing complex narratives and enacting hyper-formalism to dizzying new heights. The project grows out of Walter’s practice of keeping elaborate artist's books of drawings, which conflate fragments of text and image together into the building blocks for more extensive compositions and narratives. These GIFs build on Walter's interest in aphorisms, in psycho dramas, and in Surrealist storytelling.
This collection extends Walter's decades long obsession with hybrids, and the emergent possibilities that occur in combinatorial processes. Each NFT is composed of three layers: a background building, a middle ground of noise in the form of animated text and glyphs, and a foreground of two unique characters. Spatial games are played-off against one another to charge-up the pictorial field; flat cartoons cast shadows in volumetric spaces, which play host to hubbub clouds; it is an elegantly choreographed graffiti.
Characters include Minstrel, Colonel Tibbs and Caruso. Some are types, others criminal aliases, and other are allusions to the history of San Francisco where Sydney Ducks is set. The noise layer features texts drawn from Walter’s research into stigma, and the pioneering writing on the subject by Erving Goffman. Enigmatic words such as DISIDENTIFIER, STIGMAPHILE or VISIBILITY are taken out of their original context and transposed onto the emotional lives of the cartoons. Each drama is set in a different place within Sydney Ducks, which can be found on the map, including Deviation Drive, Stigma Centre and The Mental Hygiene Clinic.

Sydney Ducks is set in a parallel reality,
the cousin world of Happy Crust and Jezreel's Tower - part
historical fiction, part fantasy. It follows a divergent timeline from our own.
It is dark and dystopian, drawing inspiration from David Bowie's 1995 album
'1. Outside'. Like that album it assumes a non-linear narrative.
The Gold Coast pandemic of 2038 has severely affected international political stability
and living conditions, causing mass migration from Australia to the West Coast
of the USA. Foreshocks have been felt along the San Andreas fault over the past
9 months and a large earthquake is predicted soon.
The Sydney Ducks are an Australian gang, nostalgic for the Californian gold rush
and their ancestors. Like their Victorian namesakes they are the cause of rampant
crime and arson in the Bay Area. They speak a 'flash language' that is a patois of Australian slang and 20's 'crypto-talk'.

The project is structured in a monthly flow of developments, because the Artist and the Team see this as building blocks for a long term NFT exploration.

How can I buy an NFT? +
To purchase the NFTs you must connect your Wallet that is connected to the Ethereum Chain, following that, you must have available Ethereum for the purchase of the NFT and its Gas Fees, click the Mint button and accept the transaction relating to the NFT you would like to mint.
What does Mint Mean? +
Minting an NFT, is the process by which digital art, or any digital content, is recorded permanently on a blockchain. Sydney Ducks uses the Ethereum Blockchain.

The mint price of Sydney Ducks will vary depending on the 3 types of NFTS:
Genesis NFTs: 0.45ETH
Main Character NFTs: TBD

How many NFTs will be created? +
The Genesis Collection consists of 30 (1/1) NFTs.
Each Month for 12 months, ONE Main and ONE Supporting Character will be released. There will be a total of 60 NFTs for each Character. The total collection will be 1440 NFTs, consisting of 720 main and 720 supporting characters.
What makes this different from other NFT projects? +
“I'm not stepping into NFTs for a moment, just to duck out again. This is a serious commitment. I've been working in digital things for years and years, building worlds, hoping that at some point the work could become accessible in the digital realm. This summer I have embraced that opportunity and not only has working in this field meant that my work has evolved in new and unforeseen ways, but also that my way of working has brought something new to the NFT conversation. This differs from other NFT projects in being episodic. This 12 month project will be running in parallel with John's practice, constantly evolving. Holders will be engaged throughout the journey.
Are NFTs bad for the environment? +
Following the Ethereum Merge event that occurred, the use of Ethereum is expected to decrease by 99.5% in its electricity usage, significantly reduce the use of Ethereum on the environment.
